A new premium line of sleek, luxurious, performance-oriented merino underwear is giving men a chance to reconnect with their inner Beast.

Icebreaker, the leading outdoor apparel company, is introducing Beast, its new line of underwear for men. The range complements Nature's Intimates, Icebreaker's popular range of stylish underwear for women.

Like everything produced by Icebreaker, the garments in Beast are made from sustainably-produced pure merino wool sourced from the Southern Alps of New Zealand - the best merino-growing region in the world. They're high performance, ecologically sound and sexy as hell.

Inspired by nature, Beast is designed for men who love the outdoors but live in urban areas. They're rugged enough to withstand the toughest work-out, yet are tailored to be a perfect fit beneath a city suit.

Fine merino is a perfect fabric for underwear: it's lightweight, breathable, wicks away sweat and prevents chafing.

Designer Jason Phillips says Beast was designed with Icebreaker's typical attention to detail and insistence on garments being fun as well as functional.

"Beast is a sophisticated, great-looking range that works just as well on the mountain as it does in the boardroom. Merino is a natural fabric, so it's much more comfortable than a synthetic," he says.

"We've paid lots of attention to the details that make such a difference to the fit. For example, our underwear have a contoured pouch, which is sexy, supportive and fits really well under slim-fitting trousers."

As ever with Icebreaker garments, there are a few distinctive quirky details - such as the reflective heat transfers also seen in the company's Outdoor collection.

"Realistically, there probably won't be many occasions when you'll be running down a trail in your briefs and someone will shine a torch on them. But if that happens, you're covered!" says Jason.

The Beast range includes four bottoms: a brief, a boxer brief with a fly, a boxer brief without a fly, and a boxer with a button fly. There's a variety of short and long-sleeved tank tops, with crew or v-necks.

Colours are classic and easy to wear: bone, grey heather/stone, and grey heather/dark. Briefs have a vibrant stripe in a salsa red, a hot gold or a bright, athletic blue.

Like all Icebreaker garments, the Beast range complies with the company's absolute insistence on sustainability and a high standard of animal welfare, as well as practices that are socially ethical, have a low impact on the environment and use the latest clean technology.
